Service Description
The course will cover everything you need to know and learn to become a FGC coordinator. Course Content: Origins of the FGC model National standards for practice and accreditation Promotion of the FGC model and encouraging engagement Preparation methods Active Listening skills Working with children, family members and people with learning difficulties Liaising with other professionals and agencies and their role within the FGC process Forums where FGC's are utilised The role of advocacy, mediation and conflict resolution Facilitating the FGC meeting Barriers to overcome and risk management The family plan Facilitating the follow up review meeting key legislation and research. Networks, forums, and the Family Rights Group Our aim is for you as a coordinator: To understand the underpinning value basis of FGCs; To understand the legal and policy framework within which FGCs are delivered; To develop a working knowledge of FGCs, including understanding the skills in preparing for the FGC, managing the meeting and the process that follows; To develop the skills to coordinate a child welfare family group conference, and convert the family plan into a format acceptable for court bundles. To recognise the complexities of family led decision-making and learn skills in managing these complexities and conflicts in families; To understand the role of other professionals in the meeting; To understand the issues involved in supporting children’s participation in the FGC process; To inform participants of the wider accreditation framework; To be familiar with research findings in relation to FGCs and to be signposted for further information; To enable participants to be aware of sources of support including the FGC Network; To consider and plan for working in a virtual environment.
